St. Thomas’s most picturesque beach lets stand w

St. Thomas’s most picturesque beach lets stand where two oceans meet … after you hike 1.5 miles to it. 🏝️🚶🏼‍♀️

Mermaid’s Chair is on the west end of St. Thomas and is a secluded double-sided beach where you can stand with one foot in the Atlantic Ocean and one in the Caribbean Sea at the same time.

To get there, start driving west … and just keep driving west. Mermaid’s Chair happens to be on the coast of a private community, so the only way to get to it by land is to walk. All USVI beaches are public, so the community is required to allow those on foot to access the beach.

Park on the road in front of the Botany Bay Market and approach the guard gate of the The Preserve gated community. You’ll give them your name, government-issued ID, and contact info before entering.

Now you start your 1.5 mile walk down to the beach. The walk is mostly on roads and sidewalks and is quite manageable, but what you need to be prepared for is the 1.5 mile return trip that is mostly uphill and offers no shade.

Be sure to wear comfortable shoes, wear sunscreen and have the right change of clothes to make the return trek. And most importantly, take a *lot* of water.

This beach is a true Jetsweater destination! ✈️💦

NOTE: cell service is almost nonexistent on the beach, so be sure to save your map in advance if needed.
